Plano, Texas – February 14, 2024 – Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) announces its upcoming benefit dinner, “Defending the Defenders,” taking place on March 2nd in Plano, Texas.
At “Defending the Defenders,” attendees will hear from esteemed speakers, including renowned scholar and presidential hopeful, Dr. Cornel West, and the acclaimed Senator Nina Turner. Both Dr. West and Senator Turner are powerful advocates for justice and equality, and their presence at the event promises to inspire and empower all who attend.
This event is a call to action in the fight against systemic oppression. Dr. Cornel West and Senator Nina Turner will delve into the parallels between defending the rights of marginalized communities and the urgent need to confront Islamophobia in America. Their insightful discussions will shed light on the challenges faced by those who courageously speak out against injustice.
In addition to the thought-provoking discussions, MLFA will present Lee Merritt, known as “the People’s Lawyer,” with the prestigious “Defending the Defenders” award. This award recognizes Merritt’s unwavering dedication to defending the rights of those who face discrimination and injustice.

MLFA has been in the press for their early victory with the U.S. Education Department’s investigation into Harvard University over allegations of failing to protect Palestinian, Muslim, and Arab students and their supporters from harassment, threats, and intimidation. This investigation stems from the complaint filed by MLFA against Harvard University on behalf of affected students. MLFA Civil Litigation Senior Staff Attorney, Chelsea Glover will speak on the case and the importance of standing up against such injustices.
