ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and support the criminal, civil, and immigration legal divisions of the organization
  • Advise on complex client cases and collaborate with attorneys to best support our clients
  • Serve as an ambassador and represent the organization positively in the community
  • Oversee the development and implementation of ethical and professional legal practices, procedures, and systems
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate issues to the CEO and Board of Directors in a timely manner
  • Partner with the CEO and executive team in developing and managing the annual budget and strategic planning
  • Assist with the recruitment and training of new staff
  • Monitor employee performance; provide coaching and performance feedback as needed
  • Develop, monitor, and report on key development and performance metrics
  • Plan and conduct regular staff meetings
  • Support the CEO with operational tasks as requested
  • Ensure work duties are being performed in accordance with safety and security policies and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Represent MLFA’s mission and values on a daily basis

EXPERIENCE – EDUCATION

  • JD degree from an accredited university
  • Active membership with the State Bar of Texas
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive legal experience serving underrepresented populations
  • Specialization in immigration, civil, and or criminal law litigation
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit management preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Indoor office setting with occasional outdoor exposure
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, and mouse
  • Moderate noise levels
  • Occasional travel (less than 20% of the time)

Our Junior Staff Attorneys must work well in a diverse workplace and be willing to take on novel legal issues because our mission is focused on complex civil matters that may include litigation. These cases require rigorous preparation of normally routine administrative matters with an eye toward federal litigation. Our legal team must embrace the intellectual challenge of being on the front lines of changing legal landscapes. To be successful in the Junior Staff Attorney role, you must be a creative and strategic thinker with a passion for justice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with a diverse caseload of nationwide federal civil litigation and administrative matters.
  • As appropriate and under the direction of the Civil Litigation Department Head, examine witnesses and present arguments in pre-trial, trial, and appellate Civil Litigation proceedings.
  • Draft complaints, motions, briefs, discovery and all the things for civil litigants in federal courts at all levels.
  • Conduct legal screenings and consultations with potential clients and make recommendations to management.
  • Work to ensure proper administrative exhaustion of relevant matters prior to litigation, with great attention to detail and the varying applicable administrative procedures.
  • Meet case deadlines, both set by courts and those set internally.
  • Collaborate with community partners to develop presentations and other educational events.
  • Assist the legal team on a variety of tasks, projects, processes, and initiatives as needed
  • Collaborate with attorneys and the MLFA team to determine case strategy
  • Ensure work duties are being performed in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations
  • Represent MLFA’s values on a daily basis

Experience and Education

  • JD from an accredited university
  • Admission to a state bar including at least one federal jurisdiction
  • Demonstrated interest in public interest law
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Prior nonprofit experience preferred
  • Experience working with marginalized or impacted communities, grassroots organizations, and non-governmental organizations
  • Bilingual with English and Farsi or Arabic a plus

  • Responsible for cultivating relationships with donors

  • Work closely with the Executive team and program staff to attain organizational goals

Full Job Description

Muslim Legal Fund of America (“MLFA”) seeks a Graphic Designer to join the team. MLFA’s mission is to defend and protect Muslims by providing pro bono legal services in criminal, civil, and immigration law at the federal level.

The Graphic Designer’s primary responsibility will be to create marketing materials that successfully engage and inform our target audiences. The graphic designer will manage the creation of all direct marketing collateral, digital executions, and brand materials. This person will be responsible for the creation of creative designs while adhering to our brand and style guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design all marketing collateral and assist with digital projects for the organization
  • Create digital designs, including but not limited to infographics, web banners, emails, online advertising, and other components for website needs
  • Prepare image files for use; proactively gather and suggest images that meet creative needs
  • Create copy for materials and projects as needed
  • Work with print vendors to select paper, review proofs, and prepare final print production artwork according to specifications
  • Work closely with the internal Marketing & Communications team, other internal stakeholders, external agencies, and vendors
  • Ensure projects are successfully completed from beginning to end
  • Attend regular staff meetings and trainings as required
  • Ensure work duties are being performed in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations
  • Represent MLFA’s values on a daily basis

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or Marketing preferred
  • Minimum of three years of graphic design experience
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (including Illustrator and InDesign), Sketch, and Canva
  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook; experience creating online content
  • Prior non-profit experience a plus
  • Bilingual with English and Farsi or Arabic a plus
