Training
Community education is key to ensuring individuals recognize when their fundamental rights protected by the U.S. Constitution are being violated.
In an effort to empower individuals, MLFA has been hosting seminars for Muslim community leaders and Imams on a wide variety of topics, including engaging with law enforcement, immigration, law, non-profit law, prisoners’ rights, international humanitarian aid, banking regulations, and information about watch lists. The goal is that the information provided to Muslim leaders and Imams will then be spread to the community at large.
We also work to educate members of the Muslim community directly through hosting legal seminars and presentations at two of the largest gatherings of Muslims in America, the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) conventions.
As the legal needs of the Muslim community continue to grow, attorneys across the United States have offered to assist MLFA with meeting those needs. MLFA is working on arranging Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses so that attorneys can be trained on how to handle key issues that face the Muslim community, such as FBI interviews and what to do when your name is on the Terror Watchlist.
