WE STAND WITH SUSMAN GODFREY. WE STAND WITH THE RULE OF LAW.

MLFA’s attorneys continue their support of the rule of law, and proudly joined in an amicus submitted on Friday, April 25 on behalf of 777 solo and small firm attorneys in support of Susman Godfrey’s challenge to the Executive Order issued April 9 targeting its legal work.

We supported Perkins Coie by joining in a similar amicus two weeks ago, and we now offer the same support to Susman Godfrey and its attorneys.

The Executive Orders against legal providers accuse them of “weaponizing” the legal system—by providing services to all parties, that comport with the rule of law on which America’s core ideals rest, regardless of whether the clients’ specific viewpoints win the favor of any one administration.

That’s what attorneys do.

That’s what attorneys in a democracy should do.

And that’s what the attorneys at Susman Godfrey and the other targeted law firms did.

But since this administration doesn’t like who they did it for, they want to silence these attorneys.

Silencing these attorneys equates to silencing our legal system, and we won’t stand for that.

“This is no joke and not a drill — these attacks, if successful, will drastically hamper our legal system and the right to representation, free speech, and lawful challenges to unconstitutional behaviors that our Constitution allows. We proudly support Susman Godfrey, and each law firm challenging these illegal Executive Orders.”

– Christina Jump, Civil Litigation Department Head
