An MLFA waqf for the defense of the Muslim community

Ibrahim (AS) built for generations he would never meet. This is how we build today.

MLFA Endowment

A waqf for the defense of the Muslim community

Give to the Endowment

Thousands of years ago, Ibrahim (AS) built something he would never see completed.

He built knowing it would outlive him. That is why it still stands.

For generations, Muslims followed that example through waqf, establishing foundations that sustained mosques, schools, and communities long after they were gone.

You are invited into that same tradition.

What is a waqf

A waqf is a permanent charitable Endowment rooted in Islamic tradition. Its principal is preserved. Its returns are used to serve a mission over time. For centuries, waqf supported the institutions that held Muslim communities together, places of worship, learning, care, and public service.

MLFA Endowment brings that model into the present.

What this Endowment does

The MLFA Endowment provides sustained support for MLFA's legal defense work. MLFA's legal representation is provided pro bono. Clients are not charged for their defense. This work depends on a structure that can support it consistently. The Endowment is built to provide that support, allowing this work to continue, case after case, with clarity and discipline.

It ensures that:
  • Cases are taken without hesitation
  • Families facing injustice have access to strong legal defense
  • Direct legal defense is provided pro bono to individuals facing prosecution, detention, or civil rights violations
  • American Muslim nonprofits have access to legal protection and defense
  • MLFA is resourced to recruit and retain top-tier legal and administrative talent
  • The work continues with consistency over time

The work MLFA does is continuous. It calls for support that is steady, reliable, and built to carry forward with it.

How it works

Your gift is not spent, it becomes part of the MLFA Endowment, it is not consumed by a single case or campaign, it becomes part of something built to support our work over time. Your donation is invested in accordance with Islamic principles, carefully managed, and grown over time. The principal is preserved, and each year, a portion of those returns supports MLFA's legal work.

The MLFA Endowment continues to grow, and so does the support it provides.

Shariah compliance

MLFA Endowment is structured in line with Islamic financial principles:

  • No interest-based investments
  • No prohibited industries
  • No speculative or non-compliant vehicles

This structure reflects the classical waqf: protected principal, defined charitable purpose, and responsible use of returns.

Sadaqah Jariyah

The Prophet ﷺ taught that when a person passes, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a child who prays for them.

A contribution to the MLFA Endowment is part of that tradition: a form of giving that continues to benefit others as long as the work continues.

Governance

The MLFA Endowment is:

  • The MLFA Endowment is:
  • Audited annually
  • Reported on transparently

Donors receive clear updates on how the Endowment grows and how its resources are used to support MLFA's work.

Build what justice depends on.

Managed with disciplined oversight. Reported with full transparency.

Give to the MLFA Endowment, a modern waqf, and help sustain the legal defense our community cannot go without.
