Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) celebrates the dismissal of the lawsuit against American Muslims for Palestine (“AMP”) and its leaders, Dr. Osama Abuirshaid and Dr. Hatem Bazian, in the Central District of California on January 20, 2026. The lawsuit was one of many in which MLFA helps to defend AMP and its leaders against baseless claims. Judge Mark Scarsi agreed with AMP that “there are no factual allegations raising an inference that AMP was involved” in any conspiracy to harm Plaintiffs. Despite inflammatory allegations unrelated to the claims, AMP and its leaders continue to see the truth prevail.
MLFA is grateful to Ms. Christina Jump, who began her work on this lawsuit as the Civil Litigation Department Head in MLFA’s Legal Division, and continues to serve as lead counsel for AMP after entering private practice with Jump Start Legal Justice Center. MLFA remains dedicated to helping to represent AMP, with Staff Attorneys Samira Elhosary and Ali Boyd supporting Ms. Jump for the duration of this case. Thanks also go to AMP’s local counsel, Max Schoening of Qureshi Law, for all his help.
“We’re so excited to see AMP vindicated, yet again, from these baseless attacks. Though the lawsuits continue to get creative, we continue to rise to the occasion to protect AMP and allow it to continue its important work educating the US public about the just cause of Palestine.”
– Samira Elhosary, Civil Litigation Staff Attorney
“American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) welcomes the dismissal of yet another baseless case. We are deeply grateful to Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) and its legal team for their steadfast representation,” said Dr. Osama Abu Irshaid, Executive Director of AMP. “Additionally, we extend our sincere gratitude to Attorney Christina Jump from the Jump Start Legal Justice Center.” This victory adds to our long record of legal triumphs. Malicious and hostile lawsuits may find temporary resonance in biased media, but they collapse entirely in the courts. These cases are nothing more than attempts to damage reputations and distract us from our mission.”
“When our opponents fail to weaken our resolve in the arena of truth and public opinion, they resort to false accusations in an effort to divert the discussion,” Abu Irshaid added. “Yet, despite these tactics, Palestinian rights continue to gain momentum in the United States. Israel and its apologists can continue their attempts to derail the truth, but their efforts cannot obscure the growing recognition of justice.”
“I remain honored to lead litigation for AMP, both during my time at MLFA and now as Jump Start Legal Justice Center. Each time we have the opportunity for facts to rise over fear, the federal courts recognize the failures of the lawsuits against AMP. AMP and its officials work hard, and work honestly, and even the plaintiffs couldn’t point to a single fact where AMP committed a violation — as the Judge rightly observed that “there are no allegations that anyone from AMP was anywhere near” the events the plaintiffs claim caused them harm. They were not, and now they need not be anywhere near these plaintiffs’ baseless claims.”
