Texas Community Joint Statement Demanding the Immediate Release of Marwan Marouf
October 10, 2025
We come together as faith leaders, civic organizations, and community members of Texas, united in our demand for the immediate release of Marwan Marouf from immigration detention. Marwan Marouf’s arrest is wrongful and unjust, and his continued detention compounds that injustice.
Mr. Marouf, a long-standing resident of North Texas, was recently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under deeply concerning circumstances. On the morning of Monday, September 22, he was taken into custody shortly after dropping off his young son at school—an event that has left his family and our community in distress.
For more than three decades, Mr. Marouf has been an exemplary community leader, volunteer, and mentor. Through his work with the Dallas Chapter of the Muslim American Society, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening civic engagement, fostering interfaith understanding, and cultivating the development of young leaders. He also founded the largest Muslim Boy Scout troop in the region, Boy Scouts of America Troop #2054. He served as a certified disaster relief first responder with the American Red Cross, consistently demonstrating compassion and service to others in times of crisis.
Mr. Marouf’s release pending review of his immigration case is not a political favor. It is an act of common sense and basic decency for someone with deep roots, a stable family, and a lifetime of service in this city. Having lived in North Texas for thirty years, Mr. Marouf is a clear example of what true leadership, compassion, and dedication to community look like. His tireless work to support youth programs, organize neighborhood initiatives, and advocate for refugee work has made a lasting impact on countless lives. His absence has already deeply impacted humanitarian and community service efforts in the Dallas area. His detention does not serve public safety—it undermines the trust and moral foundation that our communities depend on.
The urgency of our request is heightened by Marwan’s medical history. Dr. Mohammed Marouf, the oldest son of Marwan Marouf, stated that his father has “Brugada Syndrome, a serious heart rhythm disorder that has already caused him a heart attack in the mid-2000s and required a permanent pacemaker. His sudden detention puts his health at significant risk.”
We call for his immediate release, so that he can receive the medical care and monitoring he needs from his doctors on the outside.
In solidarity,
