Honoring the Legacy of Tarek Al-Kadri: Empowering the Next Generation of Muslim Leaders
June 15, 2023
The Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) experienced a profound loss several years ago with the passing of our former president and co-founder, Tarek Al-Kadri. A true visionary and compassionate leader, Tarek dedicated his life to uplifting the American Muslim community and advocating for social justice. To carry on his enduring vision, we established the Tarek Al-Kadri Social Justice Leadership Scholarship in 2021.
Tarek’s commitment to social justice and empowering American Muslims continues through this scholarship, which supports young Muslim leaders pursuing careers in fields such as policy, government, law, film, media, and journalism. By providing financial assistance to these students, we aim to improve the negative portrayals of Muslims and increase the number of Muslim policymakers.
The Tarek Al-Kadri Social Justice Leadership Scholarship is part of the Islamic Scholarship Fund’s (ISF) Endowment Fund, which shares our goal of investing in the education and future of Muslim students. In 2022, the ISF selected 47 scholars and invested a total of $214,500 in their education.
We believe that supporting the education of the next generation of Muslim leaders is crucial to creating lasting change in society. The Tarek Al-Kadri Social Justice Leadership Scholarship awards funds to eligible American Muslim scholars who demonstrate a strong commitment to justice and aspire to make a difference in the world.
