Richardson, TX – October 11th, 2022: The Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) and the Constitutional Legal Center for Muslims in America (CLCMA) announced their merger today, positioning the newly combined organizations to better defend, protect, educate and serve American Muslims and Muslim organizations against discrimination, unfair targeting and all the legal and social issues that fall under the guise of national security.

“Today is a milestone for the work of MLFA and CLCMA in creating a more unified stance defending the civil rights of American Muslims,” said Dr. Hatem Bazian, Chair of the MLFA Board of Directors. MLFA has spent the past three years deepening its commitment to operational and mission excellence. As part of the organizational development planning process, leadership from MLFA and CLCMA agreed that merging the two organizations would lead to expanded influence and more effective outcomes in advancing the shared mission.

CLCMA is now the legal department of MLFA. Arshia Ali-Khan is the CEO of the unified MLFA, with Charles Swift as the leader of criminal legal services; Christina A. Jump as the leader of civil litigation legal services; and Kathryn Brady as the leader of immigration legal services. “We are in this together to leave our impact on the world,” said Arshia Ali Khan, as she presided over today’s signing of the merger documents.

MLFA defends Muslims and Muslim non-profit organizations across the nation by offering pro bono and low bono legal defense. CLCMA was created and funded by MLFA in 2014 and has grown into the largest strategically focused, nonprofit law center dedicated to defending constitutional rights for Muslims in America.

The Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) has been serving the Muslim community since 2001. MLFA created and funded the Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America (CLCMA) in 2014 to gather the expertise and vision of exceptional federal national security attorneys in a single place serving American Muslims and Muslim organizations. This groundwork led to precedent-setting cases and recognition by the legal community. MLFA attorneys are recognized for their expertise in national security law.
