MLFA Thought Leadership

My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

Surah TaHa 20:114

MLFA provides legal education and promotes thought leadership, strengthening Muslim community organizations.

On Friday, November 4, 2022, The Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) is offering a Law and Policy Symposium entitled “Perspectives on Muslim Philanthropy: A Look at Waqf in Building a Strong and More Resilient Community in a Pluralistic Society”.

Why is MLFA offering this symposium?

MLFA is here to defend, protect, and educate. Through Indiana University’s Muslim Philanthropy Initiative, this symposium offers education that protects and empowers Muslim community organizations.

MLFA is here to establish and promote thought leadership for American Muslims and Muslim nonprofits. By partnering with mainstream experts in the legal and nonprofit fields, we are expanding our reach and credibility in order to advance equality and justice for all.

What will I learn?

This program brings together comparative law perspectives on issues of economic justice and philanthropy. Speakers will discuss Islamic social finance concepts and legally constructed tools, including the role of Islamic endowments in relation to community resilience and non profit practices in a pluralistic society.

Session 1 focuses on the role of Islamic social finance in promoting economic justice in society. Session 2 examines the waqf as an Islamic finance tool. Session 3 promotes the engagement of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with Islamic social finance.

How does this event benefit the Muslim community?

MLFA protects the civil rights of Muslim Americans. Our objective is to roll back the post-9/11 policies and legal precedents that have negatively and disproportionately affected Muslim American individuals and organizations.

Through legal education and through these crucial conversations, we’re strengthening our Muslim leaders and communities.
