Dear family and friends,
As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Our community was momentarily shaken by ICE’s pickup of our beloved brother, Marwan Marouf, a highly respected and cherished member of our community. Yet, after taking a moment to absorb both the gravity and the injustice of this action, we returned to our core – our faith. Our unshakable faith.
If we have learned anything in these past 700+ days, it is this: what Allah (SWT) permits for us, no one can deny us; and what Allah (SWT) denies us, no one can grant us. Many of you have already stepped forward with offers to do anything and everything to support Marwan. And, we know Marwan himself would urge us to move forward with courage, to go toward the light for it is the light that darkness most fears.
As his legal strategy takes shape, we ask for your dua’a – that Allah (SWT) keeps us strong, united, and steadfast. We are deeply grateful for your outpouring of prayers, compassion, and solidarity. Please know that Marwan has long been a client of MLFA’s Immigration Litigation Department. From the moment the news broke, MLFA has been in lockstep with him. Even now, we are carefully assembling a broader legal team to anticipate every potential hurdle and to meet this challenge with the full measure of skill and strategy it demands.
To be transparent, we will share with you what we can as this process unfolds. We will also ask you to stand with us – strongly, fiercely, and vocally – when the time is right. A chorus of support will be needed. At the same time, we ask everyone to respect that Marwan’s legal strategy is serious and must be handled with great caution. We must guard against giving the government any opportunity to misuse our words against him.
We know this case is shocking, disturbing, and unjust. We are mindful that we are up against a system of immense resources – one that has consistently targeted those who dare to speak truth to power, especially immigrants and advocates for Palestine. This playbook is not new. But neither is our resilience, nor our faith.
In the days ahead, we will turn to you for your thoughts, ideas, and support. In the meantime, remembering how deeply Marwan is loved, we ask each of you to use the most powerful tool at your disposal: dua’a. May Allah (SWT) accept our prayers, grant Brother Marwan and his family ease and strength, and allow justice to prevail. Ameen.
