Religious Accommodations in Institutions

American Muslims in prisons and institutions often face challenges when it comes to practicing their chosen religion without unfair interference.

The Issue

It is crucial to understand that the right to exercise religious freedom extends beyond prison gates, and the Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) plays a vital role in ensuring this right is protected. American Muslims in prisons and institutions often face challenges when it comes to practicing their chosen religion without unfair interference.

Specifically, these challenges involve the right to engage in prayer, wear religious head coverings, and have access to religiously compliant meal plans. MLFA is actively involved in addressing these issues by providing assistance and guidance. We have authored a comprehensive book that helps institutions understand their obligations in accommodating religious practices, and it is available for free to everyone.

MLFA has achieved recognition for their work in preserving the rights of individuals to wear hijab, maintain religious texts, maintain a neatly trimmed beard, and receive religiously compliant meals. Their efforts extend beyond education and awareness; we are also committed to enforcing the law to combat discrimination and ensure religious freedom.
