Freedom Delayed for Ayman Soliman, Bond Decision Forthcoming from Immigration Judge
3:30pm TUESDAY July 22 Virtual Press Conference with Legal Team
CLEVELAND ― Cleveland Immigration Judge Jennifer Riedthaler-Williams left bond proceedings in the case of Ayman Soliman, pending additional briefing from both parties.
Today at 3:30pm ET, Mr. Soliman’s legal team will host a virtual press conference to discuss the hearing and next steps in his legal case. Register here to join the 3:30 Zoom.
Ayman Soliman is the beloved and long-time Cincinnati Children’s Hospital chaplain who was abruptly arrested at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office after his lawful asylum status was terminated. Mr. Soliman has been detained at the Butler County Jail since July 9. The next step in his casecomes July 24, when he and his attorneys appear in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio, for a status conference on a habeas case they filed to prevent the federal government from transferring him away from his lawyers and support system in Ohio.
Soliman is a faith leader who fled Egypt after being tortured for reporting on the pro-democracy movement. He was in the United States lawfully. The termination of his legal immigration status, and subsequent arrest on civil immigration charges, sparked an immediate and sustained outcry from hospital staff, parents and other caregivers, and community members of all backgrounds. Read more about his case here.
