FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 23, 2025

Dallas, TX – MLFA initial press release for Marwan Marouf

MAS-DALLAS Leader, Marwan Marouf, Detained by ICE After Decades of Service in Dallas

Early on the morning of September 22, 2025, ICE agents stopped and detained Dallas Muslim community leader, Marwan Marouf, after he dropped his son off for school and made his way to work. MLFA’s Immigration Litigation Department has been representing Brother Marwan for over six years in an effort to prove to USCIS that he is eligible for lawful permanent residence.

MLFA’s Legal Director, Marium Uddin, is leading the legal team’s efforts in both immigration and federal court as we fight against the U.S. government’s efforts to deport him despite his decades of service to the greater Dallas community. MLFA’s Immigration Litigation Department attorneys, Kathryn Brady and Franchel Daniel, are strengthened with the blessed addition of highly esteemed attorneys Hassan Ahmad, Furqan Azhar, Christopher Godshall-Bennett, Maria Kari, Eric Lee, and Isaul Verdin.

Brother Marwan came to the U.S. more than 30 years ago, where he furthered his education, married, and worked tirelessly to raise his family in this community. Thousands throughout the Dallas-Ft.-Worth community – and nationwide – know Marwan as a peaceful leader. During his time in the U.S., he has been a dedicated humanitarian, devoting significant efforts to a broad range of charitable causes as specified in his green card applications. Included in his community service is the significant fact that Brother Marwan helped found Boy Scout Circle 10 District’s largest troop here in North Dallas, has actively promoted multiple drug awareness campaigns to educate youth about the dangers of drug use, volunteers regularly with the Red Cross, and is a Certified Disaster Relief First Responder.

Brother Marwan’s immigration journey started in the early 90s, where he excelled as an international student. His employer sponsored his temporary work and permanent residence applications for 15 years before USCIS started throwing up roadblocks by mischaracterizing his charitable efforts. USCIS gave him no answer about his pending green card application until the ICE officers who detained him handed him a decision denying his case dated that very same day. Shockingly, the denial consisted of USCIS’s recycled opinions from over a decade ago, and it completely ignored the facts and legal arguments that support Brother Marwan’s eligibility for a green card. This lack of fundamental fairness is an injustice that MLFA seeks to correct through fearless lawyering by our team of expert attorneys.

Rest assured, MLFA stands for constitutional protections for Brother Marwan and everyone in America, which includes due process and the rule of law. MLFA is standing by our client, alongside the community he served, to protect his legal rights, including his right to religious freedom, as we fight against the U.S. government’s discrimination and targeting of Muslims in America.
