Virtual CLE: First Amendment: Free Speech and Associational Rights
In the last two years, as attacks against organizations advocating for Palestine have largely failed, we’ve begun to see an uptick in legal attacks against organizations and individuals just for being Muslim or affiliated with Muslims. This program will review the recent history of cases against Palestine and Muslim advocacy organizations, and how lawfare strategy is changing to target Muslim organizations and individuals more broadly regardless of whether they have spoken about Palestine publicly. We will also address the rising politically motivated “sharia law” scare tactics we’re seeing in Texas and around the country. Attendees will learn the history of litigation tactics and court decisions that have led to the current moment.
