The Impact of HR 9495 on Muslim American Nonprofit Organizations

Join the Muslim Legal Fund of America for our first virtual CLE and webinar of 2025 on HR 9495 and its impact for Muslim American nonprofit organizations. Our panelists will explain how this bill grants the Treasury Secretary broad authority to revoke tax-exempt status for certain types of activity and may even limit due process by providing a short 90-day window to challenge such designation, with limited ability to review evidence against them.

Topics that will be covered by our panelists are:

  • Chilling Effect on Advocacy: Nonprofits may be hesitant to engage in advocacy work, especially on sensitive or controversial issues, fearing potential designation as “terrorist-supporting.”
  • Increased Scrutiny: Nonprofits will face increased scrutiny and potential legal challenges, diverting resources and potentially impacting their ability to serve their missions.
  • Subjectivity and Abuse of Power: The broad discretion granted to the Treasury Secretary raises concerns about potential misuse of the law for political or ideological reasons.

Event Details:

  • Date: Wednesday, February 20th
