Ayman Soliman lawfully entered this Country in 2014. He followed the rules to seek political asylum, and the U.S. Government granted his request on June 7, 2018. During the intervening years, the U.S. Government has resisted and delayed providing Mr. Soliman with the full benefits of asylum, including taking six years to process his green card application after asylum had already been granted. Mr. Soliman has not been able to bring his family to the United States.
For over a decade, Mr. Soliman has been peacefully residing in the United States, dedicating his life to serving his community, helping families and children often at their most vulnerable. Through it all, he continued to work within the immigration system, asking only to be treated fairly and justly.
In June of this year, Mr. Soliman’s grant of asylum was terminated by an asylum officer from USCIS rather than through the courts. He sought judicial review of the decision. Mr. Soliman’s case remains pending before the Immigration Court, for an Immigration Judge to review and determine whether the revocation of his asylum was proper and whether he is entitled to asylum.
Mr. Soliman will seek judicial review of this sudden decision to detain him, his request for asylum and the government’s decision, after 7 years, to terminate his prior asylum grant. This is the due process enshrined in the Constitution and in volumes of immigration laws and regulations. Mr. Soliman will continue to follow the rules and law in his pursuit of asylum. We ask only that the United States consistently follow those same rules and laws.
