Case Description
Iman Ayman Soliman, a beloved Children’s Hospital chaplain, came to the U.S. from Egypt in 2014 to escape political persecution. USCIS granted him asylum in June 2018, and he applied for lawful permanent residence in 2019. After pending for nearly five years, USCIS wrongfully denied his application, and MLFA successfully reopened that decision.
USCIS subsequently issued a Notice of Intent to Revoke its 2018 asylum grant in December 2024, full of false allegations. MLFA vigorously defendedAyman against USCIS’s accusations. It revoked his asylum status anyway in June 2025 and initiated deportation proceedings. ICE detained Ayman on July 9, 2025, and refused to agree to bond. USCIS also denied his green card application a second time, which is once again on appeal. MLFA’s defense of Ayman’s deportation resulted in a dismissal of the case and restoration of his asylum status after 72 days in ICE custody.
Verdict/Ruling:
On September 19, 2025, one week before his immigration court trial, USCIS abruptly reversed its asylum revocation decision and reaffirmed his status as an asylee. DHS immediately terminated his removal proceedings, and ICE simultaneously released him from custody.
MLFA’s August 2025 appeal of USCIS’s second denial of his green card application remains pending, along with an application for employment authorization.
IMPACT
MLFA’s aggressive challenge to DHS’s multiple violations of due process allowed Ayman to regain his asylum status and be released from ICE custody. This is indicative of MLFA’s continuous fight against government agencies’ misconduct and discrimination against Muslim noncitizens.
