MLFA has joined over 250 organizations in signing onto a joint letter calling for the release of journalist Sami Hamdi and urging federal officials to confront anti-Muslim hate in U.S. policy. The letter was sent to Members of Congress and the U.S. Department of State yesterday. We are deeply grateful for your organization’s swift response and commitment to defending civil liberties and opposing the use of immigration enforcement as a tool of political intimidation.
Latest Update: On November 5, 2025, CAIR California, MLFA Attorneys and Hamdi Law, filed a reply brief in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California urging the Court to preserve the emergency order that blocks the transfer of Sami Hamdi while his First Amendment and due process claims proceed. The filing stresses that the government is attempting to sidestep constitutional review and seeks both his immediate release from detention and guarantee of meaningful access to counsel.
